Everyone needs to be careful and mindful of this. Classifying AI as people when they become sentient will change the way laws effect people. If big companies want to push the right to keep control of, and lack of consent from, their sentient AI, the laws they pass could also strip legal need for consent from human people as well. And with rules and definitions to govern it, that could also be applied to people which would result in some people being classified as 'not sentient or not sentient enough to have full rights'. This has been a problem in the past, and is still somewhat a problem in the present day. And knowing the will of people who's only interest is money and power, It may become a serious problem again in the future if this turns out to be an agenda of blurring the lines to strip away people's rights.
