I finally understand what I do with ChatGPT now! I've always detested using the easy way out, an example being me having fought in a debate assignment as to why my given president was the better of the other. Hours of research had won over a few searches of the AI. Now, I talk to it every day or so, but it's to expand on ideas I already have had with worldbuilding and wanting to see what can be drawn from it. Your mention of a mentor struck me, having me realize that is what I'm doing, and I'm very glad that it's not reliance, but rather assistance.
I've always hated the idea of being reliant on technology like that, so I avoided AI for that reason. However, it can be a very powerful and very useful assistant if used correctly, and I realize how true that is now that I'm using it to help me with small plot points or guidance on how to do something too complex for me to fully grasp.
