Howdy hi hi,
Here's my take on AI that I think helps people understand. Imagine a very large, super large library filled hundreds of stories high with every book and publication ever generated by mankind up to this point in time. Give every book touch contact with the books around them such that all the books are connected physically.
We understand, intuitively that the mechanisms are not present for this library to suddenly evolve a mind of its own. Unfortunately, this is something we have to explain to people about computers and software. Probably because software is not something end users can see, and feel and touch. They can only access the provided interface. Books we can see, and it's pretty clear that there are no copies of Newton's Principia that will suddenly start writing new concepts of calculus on it's own.
