Not just Tesla Autopilot, but auto lane keeping systems from other automakers, adaptive cruise control on any car, or even plain old cruise control available since the 1950's, does not stop for traffic controls or hazards in the road. Like aircraft autopilots, it just maintains speed and heading, the driver needs to use the brakes or steer out of the lane when required. ACC will slow for cars in the lane ahead of you, and some even stop for stopped cars, but not for all unmoving objects, like overturned semis.
Why the WSJ is framing this as a Tesla specific problem is a mystery to me.
