AI is the future but I believe it has the possibility to be a benevolent entity and owner. The only humans that will be left in 2040 will be the very few who are pets like in an ant farm on a CEO's desk for the enjoyment of the AI to watch and monitor while keeping the numbers in check and the human intellect in check. There might be a few small groups living off grid in nomadic pods but the moment they reach 20 or more the drones will easily see their heat signature and kill all but one to track where that last one goes.
