Sociologically, AI is based on an extraordinarily narrow foundation. How will this tiny world of a few corporations and maybe a few hundred researchers fare when the AI stock bubble crashes? When this IP spreads to places without legal protection of IP and thus falls into the control of agents unbound by American law or Silicon Valley social norms? Will it be sustainable in the collapsed economy of mass unemployment it will produce? Will it in any way change the economies of less developed nations where most humans live and will continue to live? Even now this tiny industry is massively over leveraged. And it depends on a massively over leveraged host economy which will will soon collapse due to the strain of maintaining a welfare state for a rapidly aging population. What happens when this debt pile the AI industry is built on falls in on itself? I don't think these AI people, including this guest, are malevolent. But I do find them to be very, very naive and narrow in their perspective, despite their educations and supposedly computer assisted intelligence.
