Years ago my former career closed up and went under due to being outcompeted by Amazon. We just couldn't match their margins as a small business. We were all laid off in 2021. So I re-skilled and spent all my free time learning a new trade. I've spent the last 4 years grinding to acquire clients and build relationships, and at one point I was doing alright. Now I'm watching AI eat away at my new career, too. Bit by bit I watch the rates people will accept go down. Bit by bit I have clients stop messaging me. Bit by bit I see a new app that does this or a new subscription model that does that. Whenever I hear someone say "AI isn't replacing you", I laugh. It's an idiotic sentiment pushed by the uber-elite, who are using AI for its true purpose: to decouple value from labor. When your labor is worthless, how do you acquire wealth? We're careening towards a future where wealth can only be generated by owning assets, and that system is forever rigged in favor of those that already own assets AKA the rich.
I think AI is likely to be the catalyst for an unprecedented funneling of wealth upwards. And the worst part is I don't think anything can stop it.
