AI can never truly attain 'consciousness', it's a program which is, of course, programmed to do exactly as it is told.
If an AI begins behaving in certain ways similar to humans, it won't be gaining consciousness as it would have been programmed to do that, even if it is one which uses data in order to mimick these behaviors, in which that is the only way an AI could behave that way.
So, in short, no AI will ever be self-aware, it can never overtake humanity, for it will always be bound to the limits which humanity places upon it.
