Software engineer here. AI is only useful for producing boilerplate code and "solving" problems that have been solved before. It won't work if a company actually needs new code written. Yes it could replace a lot of engineers with nothing in their brain, but the true engineers who enjoy new puzzles and figuring out novel solutions will not be replaced.
