Comparing the trucking jobs to those that were pre-industrial revolution doesn't really help the case they're trying to make. The steam engine and the internet both eliminated a swath of industries. Similarly to the whale oil when we started getting electrical lighting. I'm not claiming that driverless truck are the same thing. But there are better reasons for scrutinizing this new technology.
