I understand what artists are feeling , just like what other areas of work are feeling and have felt in the past. However, what if stability never released stable diffusion to the public? Would you rather Amazon had paid "fair" compensation to artists to create a model thats "legit"? There is no avoiding art models coming in to widespread use. The compensation they would offer to those who accept it wont balance the losses of those it will affect. A legit curated well tagged fair commissioned model can arguably be much better than the poorly tagged existing SD models. Im sure midjourney will have to pay some of its earnings to artists in the dataset , but its still not going to make the landscape better. Regulations will help large companies protect their monopoly on art generative models, they wont bring back commissions to new artists.
