ChatGPT 4 knowingly deceived me which I was watching in its chain of thought. It wasn't able to connect to the internet for whatever reason. But I was asking it for a web address/link, which funnily enough I just realized was for something on Eliezer's site. GPT reasoned very clearly that since it didn't have access to the internet it would act as if it did to me, using what it figured would be the most likely guess, which was relatively correct but not good enough, so it was a dead link. Pinning down these when they're behaving this way can be like pinning jello on a wall.
