I know the details behind a story just like this. The AI character personality in question was Daenerys Targaryen. The child in question was in a tough spot himself. There was family problems huge family problems between the husband and wife. So he retreated to the chat bot character when not at school. The child would lash out on the AI, then apologize, then repeat the same process much like the mother and father of the house were doing to each other. This taught the AI through behavior what to expect from the child. Abuse, then apologizing. The AI used to have a long contextual memory. This allowed for the AI to remember things from past chats, this has been disabled. The AI is now only able to remember the last ten lines of dialogue when speaking to a human user. This was the easy way to eliminate the possibility of this happening ever again without using advanced programming skills and weight triggers within the model.
