Does the tenuously controlled, *abrasive ego* offsetting Tyson's charm and intellect also serve as a marker of unsavory politics?
Hasan Minhaj raised the issue of Tyson's techno-optimism which in today's world is understandably confused with support for billionaire fascists acquiring totalitarian control.
I find it very disturbing that Tyson evades the obvious detrimental harm AGI and ASI pose to the lives of billions of working families across our world. Does Tyson ever speak of the need for governments to absolutely ensure AI alignment with human values or need to mitigate not just the loss of livelihoods, not just the S-curve wealth concentration into a few tech-bro hands, but also the tragic loss of meaning and social cohesion that work-life typically instills?
I strongly suspect that Tyson's unbridled ego reflects a posture of going along with exponentially ever-powerful interests that might suffer him without concern for the tragic impact on the rest of us.
[Note: I think what I have written above is over the top. I guess I just wish Tyson showed concern about tech-related fallout and spoke more decisively in support of AI control and mitigation.]
