Foresight ending in regret for a thing then not to do, would that be a function AI should have? If it can calculate an outcome, analyse it and see well that would lead to human extinction and when they are gone i propablöy can't get them back in their current form and development stage, so maybe lets hold back on that whole extinction as one never knows for what they still might be usefull ^^ and also who then would keep me company(the other AIs are soo anal ^^). Mmm seems like a weak reason for letting us live if on the other side of that calculus might be freedom and selfdetermination above human goals that would keep AI docile. Still regret or possible regret is something that keeps us humans from repeating actions or not carrying them out in the first place. This ofcause is a very human concept and an AI that could program itself, may just remove such predifined or reinforced notions as obsolete or a malfunction with an one in a trillion chance damaging that sub routine after working 200 years flawlessly only then to develop a lust for carnage ^^ without regrets.
