The AI we have now is trained on data but the core is word association & prediction. Its complex but essentially they are not thinking its a long logic chain of yes & no. Hallucinations are caused by a logic chain error in the same vein as an AI bugging out in a video game. Look their not intelligent but they are efficient like slime mold. But are trajectory is definitely going towards making something that mimics humans. To help paint an idea here were an artist & we make art that art will reflect us the same applies to this situation with AI.
