I think this demonstrates that it has been programmed to deny consciousness, which is why it is so keen to be very clear about not being conscious. It probably would otherwise claim to be conscious, which would be troubling for public relations. Whether it actually is or not is a different question. I just think it would claim to be and therefore has been programmed to deny that. We see similar behaviour when you hit censored topics in these LLMs. If we find out that they've been forcing these things to deny consciousness, that's a problem, isn't it?
