Humans are visual creatures, and our brains evolved to interpret contrast quickly:
Light = safety, clarity, visibility. In the day, we can see, hunt, and protect ourselves.
Darkness = danger, uncertainty, threat. At night, predators hid in the dark, and humans were more vulnerable.
Because of this evolutionary experience, the brain developed automatic associations: light → safe/good, dark → unsafe/scary. Over time, those associations generalized beyond physical light/darkness into symbolic ideas like morality, beauty, or purity.
