As a criminal lawyer who has worked on both defence and prosecution sides for over 20 years, including advocacy at trials, I can say that I do not foresee AI ever replacing humans in this field. It may assist with menial tasks such as drafting letters and conducting reviews, but right now it requires significant oversight and will always need a human element to properly consider factors such as public interest tests or situations where a degree of empathy is required. It is and will likely be a useful assistant.
