the primary benefit of AI in this area, and the reason 'most code will be written by AI', is because a good programmer will be able to rapidly draft or prototype the 80 percent bulk of their code, and spend time reworking or changing what matters.
The speed at which a human can physically type is often the primary bottleneck for a good programmer, whose flow state means thinking faster than you can type.
The great thing about AI will be when we start using it to rapidly write that 100 lines of borderline garbage, and make changes, versus writing those 100 lines from scratch.
The problem of course is this requires already skilled programmers, and I suspect a lot will struggle to get there now because their skills will atrophy thanks to AI overuse.
