A few different arguments could be made for why fighting against A.I. art may be considered meaningless or futile. First, it could be argued that A.I. art is simply a tool, and as such, it is not something that can be "fought" against in the same way that one might fight against an ideology or a system of beliefs. Instead, it is a technology that can be used in various ways, and it is ultimately up to the people who use it to decide how it is employed and not those who demand others stop using it. As such, it should not be suppressed or censored; instead, it should be embraced and engaged constructively and thoughtfully. Lastly, art is a small part of the industries that A.I. is about to overturn; even if we were to stop all image generation models that are using copyrighted images today, that would slow the development of A.I. art by about 6 months to 1 year tops. We need to stop thinking about A.I. as a problem and start thinking about it as a tool for the next generation of artists. Overall, while it is understandable that some people may have concerns about A.I. art, it may be more productive to focus on understanding how to shape its uses rather than trying to fight against it. I wish we could all come together on how to deal with this moving forward, but there are many different ideas that I fear; by the time the current art community settles on a plan of action, we will find ourselves left behind by those who elected to use A.I. as a tool from the beginning. In that case, this generation is the last to remember a time without A.I. Better to be an early adopter on the dot com than a dinosaur trying to figure out how to send an email.
