God I work at my alma mater and my job is pushing so hard for us to all start using generative AI. There’s no real reason, none of the higher ups have any idea *why* they just keep saying “use it”….. “for something”… it’s infuriating to watch them blow tens of thousands of dollars on additional, useless copilot licenses while they’re actively laying people off! We even had our entire last communications retreat highjacked by nothing but presentations on AI, most of which were just middle aged office workers gushing about how they figured out you could “ask ChatGPT to ‘write like a journalist’” and magically get better content! I got so frustrated that I sort of snapped the last time my boss asked if I was using AI during a social media meeting and I said the day I needed ChatGPT to write me a fifteen-word tweet was the day I demanded the university refund my money for all three of my communication degrees. It’s insane out here right now.
