Right now, LLM are not conscious. It's like looking at your reflection and thinking it's alive because it's moving, the clever thing about chatbots like chatgpt is it's not reflecting only you, it's reflecting billion of people through history, giving it the illusion of consciousness. Like that conversion they had, it could have source it through science fiction novels or philosophical exercises about the nature of talking with an "AI" and that's why it's answers seems natural.
