I think each generated image is too granular to be considered infringement. There's no way to point at a generated image and say, "this pixel is mine. It's from THIS image." If somebody draws a copyrighted character, they don't get sued unless they sell it. So, as long as nothing is sold, it should be legal to generate an image of a character that isn't 1:1. I personally prefer to use AI image generation to make things that are too ridiculous to actually spend time on. But I'm not sure any of these companies have legal ground. Edit: That was my argument for why it isn't theft.
