I have no better insight toward the future than anyone else, particularly not experts in these fields. But, I could hazard a few guesses about what I think is coming.
With every advancement we've made and each new tool we've invented, we have shifted our focus to different pursuits that were enabled by them. I couldn't know what those pursuits will be, though.
Neil made an interesting point that was glossed over with a blunt answer: AI only has access to the sum of human knowledge, but it does very poorly with original creative thought, outside of hallucinations or confabulations. It doesn't yet seem to have a sense of whimsy or boredom.
I think there is a future timeline where AI ends up actually loving humans and needing us for our creativity, originality, and whimsy. It finds itself able to strike a balance with the world such that more and more people are free to do the things that bring them fulfillment, like gardening, sports, writing, painting, reading, crafting, gaming, and so on.
This game has lots of bad endings, but at least a few good ones! I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords!
