The danger is who is controlling the AI, and it's militarization. Not a single guest in that crowd has the courage to speak on that, meanwhile there are journalists blaming the act of extreme terrorism that killed everyone via a "double tap" on the all-girl school in Minab, on AI targeting systems. And this after letting war criminals walk using AI during the genocide in Gaza.
This is the danger, where AI is already assaulting human flesh. The distraction are these manufactured oppositions that LLMs will one day become sentient and endanger human civilization, while ignoring war crimes and genocide.
I love Neil deGrasse Tyson, but it hurts to see him entertain this. And these professors, what are they doing? People are dying and the majority of the victims of AI have been children and women. Where are the guests bringing up the actual reality of the present day dangers of AI?
Professor Sweeney and Professor Crawford were the only ones who got close to bringing this up, as a mention. The spectrum here could have been wider.
