It doesn't take a genius to understand that the very last thing a company wants to do is to spend money on hiring people if they don't have to.
If you think it's bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Just wait 5, 10, 20 years from now when self-driving transportation will be commonplace, AI will be light speeds improved over what it already is today, and automatons (ie. Optimus) will be commonplace.
Musk, Pinchai, and others have stated that UBI (universal basic income) will be very important in the years ahead.
