They're not just using "underrepresented minorities" as a shield; they're using them as a cudgel. As someone who's worked in ML research, the ever-increasing cynical attempts to shoehorn "AI" into everyday life disgust me, but trying to guilt an entire community into making a 180 on their views of such tech (and associated practices) is a new low. I'm on the spectrum myself, and though I love literature (and somehow got a 5 on AP Lit), I struggled throughout my gen eds in college, particularly whenever a writing assignment called for writing on topics outside my many (past or present) "special interests". But despite that, I (and people like me) did not turn to the "plagiarism machine". We do our best, play to our strengths whenever possible, and develop new skills and perspectives on writing along the way. So the suggestion that people like me might as well have been using AI all along is about as insulting as it gets.
