I say let him copyright it, but charge extra based on the fact it's AI generated. And then take the portion of those funds that exceeds standard copyright costs and give that back to artists that had their works used as training data.
Complicated as hell, probably an organizational nightmare, but yeah recognizing AI generated art as art will happen eventually. Might as well get ahead of that day enough to see the human artists get paid.
