I genuinely thought I was going nuts watching these massive companies so aggressively aim for data modelling through scale. Around 2018/9 my team used to work to leverage the Big Data craze at the time and we could get amazing results with very cleaver data selection, relationships and tagging. I've been playing with open source language, image and data models on 8gb of VRAM and the results are comparable to 90% of common queries from thweb service models. What miracle must these predicted systems be capable of to justify the profound costs to society because I don't see it happening.
