The main issue is that the economy/society is based off the assumption that each person is given the resources generated by society (eg money) relative to their own contribution. Historically this made perfect sense but with AI and automation in general, the requirement for and thus access to contribution from the general public is diminishing drastically to the point where we will only have a handful of self appointed execs who contribute by technicality due to their ownership of the automated factories and everyone else will either starve or be glorified pets due to their inability to contribute.
Alternatively if we create a system where everyone has a right to at least the minimum amount of resources to live then most people will tend to work towards improving the quality of life of themselves and others. The easiest way to do this with the current society is to give everyone a right to a minimum amount of work.
