I remember Adam Savage's take on this which was similar and I found insightful. He more or less said that AI art doesn't interest him really because it doesn't say anything. It has no point of view because it has no artist behind it to give it one.
While I think the code and algorithm technology is interesting from a scientific standpoint, the use case for generating art by stealing work and churning out dull soulless canvasses is one of the worst ways to use these developments in neural networks.
