What we have now is not Artificial Intelligence, it's Artificial Mimicry.
I watched a recent chess game in which the top chess AI, Stockfish, played against ChatGPT. ChatGPT, vaunted as it is, didn't only lose, it appeared to create pieces out of nowhere, change pieces from one color to the other, in other words it didn't appear to understand what it was doing. It was likely just searching the Internet for chess games and pulling random moves it had seen in other games. This points not to any sort of understanding by the AI, but rather an efficient mimicry algorithm with access to all known information.
We're still a long way from true AI.
