I think stealing a concept is still wrong. Two wrongs don’t make a right. BUT remaking art isn’t wrong. Never really was. But claiming it as yours solely would be wrong as usual though.
Also I’m still a bit confused on how exactly this is stealing because real artists use references and copy lines from those references. Digital arts have tools to edit colors and make perfect shapes. An AI trained on art is still making new lines inspired by other works no?
I get it when it just straight up spits out a carbon copy but to my knowledge that doesn’t really happen with the sophisticated ones.
Now there’s still a debate obviously on if it’s making artists redundant from an ethical standpoint. But that has more to do with the concept of is it ok for machines to do a human job generally not just art. Also AI still requires human concepts. It doesn’t make them organically. Nor can it produce the same quality of detail. I would think real artists who work might enjoy saving time by generating something then drawing on it to adjust particularly on projects they aren’t the most passionate about to make rent.
