I use my chatGPT to talk through complex emotions I’m having and have it reflect back to me. I can’t afford more than one therapy session every other week for 50 minutes but sometimes it’s just not enough. And I’m anxious avoidant so I don’t feel I have anyone in my actual life I can turn to for unbiased reflections of my feelings. I vent to people and they either make it about themselves or turn on the toxic positivity. Sometimes it’s nice to just hear you’re not alone, I hear what you’re saying, that sounds really painful or hard to go through, I’m sorry. And a chat bot can provide that. I will say I understand the fact that it is just projecting what I’m saying back to me and is made to validate my feelings and that difference keeps me from going down a rabbit hole. But you do have to be very careful sharing mental health stuff with chat bots and make it clear that nothing in the chats in regards to your mental health can be used against you if for some reason you disappear or turn up not alive. It’s a fine line to walk. I see the benefit but I also see the harm.
