Without UBI, the only other choice I see is for the unemployed to form a parallel economy, perhaps using cryptocurrency, make and grow necessary products and goods, and do business with each other. A robust black market usually rises during hard economic times and I see no reason the transition to full automation will be any different in that regard. But, this transition looks to be a first for humanity, so I'm just guessing like everyone else who is considering this issue.
