Does anyone seriously believe that there is ANY possibility that these "tests" will be deemed to have been failures, and that these facial recognition devices will be removed? After they've invested millions of dollars in developing them and installing them in sixteen airports?
These "tests" ("15 minute cities" is another ongoing "test" involving facial recognition technology) never fail. They are ALWAYS deemed to have been successful and made permanent. They are introduced as "tests" or "experiments" to pre-empt criticism and neutralize opposition to them. And of course it is almost impossible to rally support for a protest against something that is "only a test" and supposedly will only be temporary. Except, of course, measures of this kind are NEVER temporary. The "test" continues and is repeated in other locations, and gradually it comes to be regarded as normal procedure. This is the psychology governments use to introduce measures which, if they were announced directly, would spark outrage and public protests.
