The more closely an AI resembles a conscious being, even if it isn't. As humans, we should interact like it is. Otherwise we lose a part of our own humanity. Whenever we do not feel the need to use empathy in dealing with artificial intelligence, that instinct is susceptible to reversal. It would potentially turn us in to the same monster we are taught about in school. If you do not treat a simulated person with dignity, you are training the brain to be indifferent to other individuals.
