AI investment and speculation is taking away funding for jobs. I've tried using AI tools to replace/automate the more mundane tasks in my tech role, it could barely do it. Tried other LLMs and it was the same result - I spent more time correcting errors than if I were to do the original task myself. Even in the marketing department, our customers didn't like AI generated models (plus the images would have defects like extra fingers etc) so now the graphic designers have stopped using AI images entirely. We still have a team of copywriters because they're do a better job of writing and ensuring our content is legally compliant. Everyone is figuring out real time that humans are still needed. So why are there fewer entry level jobs and mass lay off's? Because there was a massive hiring frenzy during the pandemic when the world was awash with cash. But ever since interest rates went up, there have been mass lay off's. Together with shifting of higher investment and hype into AI, all the funding for entry level roles and even established roles have been funnelled into AI projects.
