Value of college degree has been going down for quite some time now even before the rise of AI. Basically extension of high school with more freedom.
You need translatable knowledge and skill coming out of school but most often people don't even have a clue what direction they want to go, making them turn to different industries or grad school (another issue). Higher education system has become money eating cow instead of preparing students to make contributions to the society.
