I was a motorcycle courier in the late 80s, it was rough keeping a bike on the road & we were all rogue, no proper carrier plate or commercial insurance. People let themselves get painted into an illegitimate corner. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 5 years ago I decided to try Uber Eats. I figured out almost immediately that you couldn't make money outside of the bonus periods, which were 60-80 % of the day lol The short version is this : the business model simply does not have a dime for a human driver. The bonus periods pay for that, the regular rates can only pay for a driverless car, probably monitored from a central station somewhere, maybe even in another country. So they put the bonus periods in as an R&D expense, and when they want to get rid of all their drivers, they simply end all bonus periods, and people won't be able to keep a car on the road. Probably at that point they will be able to lease a driverless car and put it on the road themselves like a mobile pop machine. This will allow for a bunch of pointless jobs in the financing field - we are heading to the intellectual equivalent of moving rocks around to create the illusion of full employment. I believe Ayn Rand said the biggest problem govts will face in the future will be millions of people with nothing to do. This may or may not be true, but it is worth considering the consequences of a govt class that believes it to be true, & is right now enacting policies in line with this approach to society, culture & the state's core responsibility to maintain public order.
