I am a lead software engineer and while AI does an incredible job with boilerplate and increasing speed at menial tasks, it's ability to critically think and just haphazardly change files is not at an acceptable spot. I am constantly having to give it numerous constraints in order to just prevent it from breaking things. When it fails I spend almost as much time finding its failures as it would have been me creating the solution myself. This is not always true but generally speaking its a tool and the narrative that it should have replaced people is dangerous and delusional.
