Shad seems like just another deeply insecure person turned grifter. Maybe living in his brothers shadow induced some kind of imposter syndrome so he gave up. I think he's well aware being a writer that storefronts are just getting swamped with AI books and he's not going to be able to get noticed among the slop. The Venn diagram overlap with edgelord anti-vax grifting makes a lot of sense.
