One issue with understanding the risks of AI is that the genie is already out of the bottle. No amount of regulation or outlawing is going to stop the progress of AI development. Like it or not, it seems that the race is on to be the first to develop a superior AI that won't destroy humanity and will help protect us from AI that otherwise would. Yes, that sounds like doomer talk, but I welcome any other potential outcome.
