I think there need to be a strong definition between different kinds of tracing.
Tracing your own photos, 3d models, or royalty-free photos or photos from reference packs that you BOUGHT is perfectly fine, shouldn't be frowned upon (and actually isn't frowned upon by most professionals) and you own NO ONE any disclosure of your artistic techniques unless you don't violate anyone else's intellectual property. You can sell work that is done that way. It's fine.
Tracing other people's art for any other reason other than studying is wrong.
Tracing photo references for the key points of the POSE is also fine because there's no copyright for the pose, but you can't trace and directly copy all of it.
Tracing objects such as cars, houses, gadget etc to incorporate them into your drawing is perfectly fine.
We need to distinguish malicious tracing from a completely valid work pipeline that IS used by professionals to speed things up, because in fact, needing to fight the algorithms is not a funny joke. It's reality.
And you might know the anatomy, and perspective and all the stuff, but quickly setting up a 3d model and tracing over it, when you've got tons of projects to make and make a living of your art is ok.
It shouldn't be even a question if it's a bad thing or not.
But tracing over AI art basically means you trace over a stolen generated image that was made without the consent of all the artists who's work was fed to the AI. That's why it's so bad.
