Human nature being what it is, some might take a universal income and sit about, but many would be too restless and need to be busy creating or improving something. The motive might be to be better than their neighbours or simply a need to be busy, but we'd not be where we are without that need. AI is a tool for humans at present and might develop sufficient consciousness to transcend that, but it needs energy and us to provide that, so far.
