I’m not even in tech. I’m the head of marketing at a company, but end up doing a lot of both front and back end coding because I *can*. For months, my boss kept saying, “just use AI to do XYZ.” Because he knew I would occasionally run snippets through to help debug. He suggested it to everyone. He thought he understood what I meant when I said, “It’s not a magic wand, you have to understand its work to double check it.”
He recently started trying to use it for himself. He tried to generate entire spreadsheets and run massive data sets with Chat GPT. After spending an entire day fighting hallucinations, he finally acquiesced that maybe we shouldn’t put it in the hands of the same people in the office who keep asking me what to Google to find out how to send an email or how to find the filter on a CRM they’ve used for 3 years.
