Raw LLM Responses

I think people using ai to cheat in school, especially college isn’t great. However as someone who got their first degree pre LLM era when the was no chat GPT and is going back now for an engineering degree. Chat GPT is an AMAZING study tool not just making school easier but studying so much more efficient. I could ask it “solve this and give me the answer” or I can say “please walk me through this one step at a time so I can understand it where I’m confused. then link me a few sources to read more about it to bridge my understanding” And it does! Wonderfully most times. Sure sometimes it’s confused or wrong and I have to go look on my own. But it’s of the time 45 minutes of aimless searching for the answer on Google, stack overflow, and Reddit is condensed to 15-20 of guided study on the sources it gives me. There are draw backs to this, and I can learn less if I ski reading the textbook and just relied on this not catching the bits in between. But if I use it to only help myself bridge gaps in my understanding and don’t cut out my necessary reading for class I leave with WAY MORE understanding in the same or less time compared to when I studied without it in my first degree. I think it’s an awesome tool but it’s unfortunately something that tempts you to go off the rail the whole time.
