I've owned 3 Teslas, the current one came with "full self driving."
It doesn't drive itself. It does some incredible things, but it doesn't drive itself. It's like being in a car with someone who is taking driver's education. You _have to_ be paying attention because it will do blatantly stupid things. I use either auto pilot (which is just adaptive cruise control with lane centering) or "full self driving" (which includes automatic lane changes, responding to traffic signals, and automatic navigation) almost every time I drive the car, but I'm always paying attention. The people who engage auto pilot or FSD (or the equivalent in other cars) and then just completely tune out have a death wish.
That said, I'm glad Tesla is getting slapped with some responsibility here, because their promises, their advertisement, and their nomenclature make it sound like the car will 100% drive itself. Ask just about anyone and they will tell you that "Teslas can drive themselves." I've heard this _so many times_ since I got my 1st Tesla. It is a widely believed myth that Teslas fully drive themselves, and Tesla is responsible for that myth. They should be held partially responsible in cases like this, but the drivers need to be held mostly responsible.
