AI functions by mimicking and mirroring the irrational patterns of humans, and even that mirror is distorted even further by moderators putting in guard rails due to panic about what ugliness that mirror is reflecting. I don't know why anyone would think that what is essentially distorted electronic funhouse mirror is a person, or even see true intelligence - but I can certainly see why it triggers the uncanny valley.
